Overlooking the beach and the Caribbean Sea on a quiet side street six km (about four mi) from Cancun's entertainment center, this hotel includes antiques and polished Italian marble.
An elegant ambience of Italian marble, brocade upholstery, gilt-frame paintings, tapestries, and antiques; exceptional dining, and discreet, personalized hospitality satisfy discriminating guests. An atrium garden featuring a sea-green Mayan-style sculpture and a stained-glass ceiling contributes a tropical note.

General Information

A beach-view terrace contains the main pool that floats like a freeform lagoon above the beach, a quiet pool, and a 16-person spa tub. Wood-floor thatch-roof structures furnished with cushioned lounge chairs accommodate from 4-8 guests, with thatched palapas, and two-person lounge chairs with fold-up shades also available for rent. The health spa offers treatments in air-conditioned rooms, in a thatch-roof pavilion, and on open-air terraces.

The Ritz Carlton Cancun Amenities

The 511-square-meter (5,500-square-foot) Kayantá Spa, offers ingredients such as avocado, vanilla, papaya, and coffee in treatments inspired by pre-Columbia rituals.

Treatments include Lol-Ha, the traditional Mayan flower bath for brides; Zac-Xib, a warrior ritual involving a body scrub and essential oils bath for men; and the Sacred Warm Stone Massage.

Treatments are offered in air-conditioned rooms, in a thatched-roof pavilion overlooking the beach, and on private open-air terraces. Women's and men's sections offer open-air, eight-person spa tubs sided by plunge pools; also included are saunas, steam rooms, Swiss and open-air showers, and relaxation lounges.

A complimentary fitness center contains weight machines, cardio machines, and free weights. An exercise studio offers complimentary aerobics classes such as Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing (surcharges).

A kids' club for ages 4-12 (surcharge) provides supervised activities in an air-conditioned clubhouse.

A business center rents cellular telephones and includes private rooms with computers and Internet access (surcharges). Wireless Internet access is available throughout the resort (surcharge).

Shoppers can browse boutiques, an art gallery, and a jewelry store. The hotel purifies its water.

The Ritz-Carlton Cancun Rooms

The Ritz-Carlton offers 365 guestrooms and suites in a tan, E-shaped, Spanish-colonial building with tile roofs and wrought-iron railings. Rooms contain high ceilings, pale-pink walls with pearl-green wood trim, green floral carpets, light-colored furniture, and blue-tone fabrics, with Frette Italian linens on beds. Furnishings include upholstered reading chairs and desks. Black-and-white Italian-marble bathrooms feature large stall showers, separate tub/shower combinations, and twin-sink vanities. Terry-cloth bathrobes and slippers provide lounging comfort. CD players and video-game consoles offer entertainment.

Ritz Club-level rooms feature five food-and-beverage services daily in an exclusive concierge lounge, beginning with a full American buffet breakfast. Salads and sandwiches are offered at lunch. Afternoon tea includes pastries. Cocktails and appetizers are served evenings, with live music offered Wednesdays through Saturdays. In a separate top-floor ocean-view lounge is a martini bar (adults only). Chocolates and cordials end the day.

Rooms are offered in the European Plan, which includes room accommodations only.

Dining

The Club Grill - Closed September 5 - September 26, 2005. Dinner restaurant employing local ingredients and emphasizing seafood and prime-grade meats. Choices such as roast lobster with leek brandade, chanterelle salad, and roast duck with chipotle and sweet potato purée. Live jazz nightly.

Fantino - Closed August 14 - September 4, 2005. Opulent fine-dining dinner restaurant. Recessed ceilings painted with pastoral murals, wall recesses containing scroll paintings, pale-green linens, and ivory-colored chairs. Mediterranean cuisine. Piano music nightly.

El Café Mexicano - Dining room and outside terrace. Buffet and à la carte breakfast. A la carte lunch. A la carte dinners plus Sunday night family-style barbecue buffet, Tuesday night Mexican buffet with live music, Friday night lobster-and-seafood buffet.

The Caribe Bar & Grill - Casual pool-terrace spot overlooking beach. White-tile roof, blue umbrellas. Open mid-morning to early evening for light meals, snacks.

Recreation

A terra-cotta-colored terrace overlooking the beach and extending the full length between the hotel's outer wings includes a two-level main pool floating like a freeform lagoon above the turquoise Caribbean Sea. A blossom-shape " quietpool" isolated at one end of the terrace measures approximately 18-by-18 meters (60-by-60 ft). A spa tub accommodates 16 guests. Pool concierges make dining reservations and book outside tours. Pool captains hand out cold towels and complimentary fruit and water.
